Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte (1769 1821), rose to prominence as a general of the French Revolution. In 1799, Napoleon staged a coup d'tat and installed himself as First Consul; five years later he crowned himself Emperor of the French. After many military successes he was forced to abdicate in April 1814 and was exiled to the island of Elba. Less than a year later, he returned to France, regaining control of the government prior to his final defeat at Waterloo in June 1815. Napoleon spent the last six years of his life under British supervision on the island of Saint Helena.
